The Glitch — Timber Chair
This project prioritizes form over function and comfort. The design concept, The Glitch, is expressed through fragmented black timber components and a series of black secondary structural elements that visually “distort” the chair’s geometry.
The process began with constructing a conventional chair using primarily Domino joinery. I then developed the linear timber pieces and introduced intentional gaps in the seat and backrest to create the fragmented visual effect. After assembling and fixing these elements to the main frame, I designed and attached the secondary structure, which reinforces the overall “glitch” expression.
For the connection between the seat and the main structure, I used figure-8 connectors to keep the joints concealed. The backrest is secured with screws, which are then hidden with dowels to maintain a clean and uninterrupted surface.
